This is an inevitable and long overdue war called rape culture. Simply put, rape culture is victim-blaming, protecting & defending rapists, promoting impunity and demanding women to act a certain way in order to avoid assault.
Itʼs very sad yet infuriating that we still have rape apologists and stereotypical men and women in the 21st century, who support and encourage rape culture, people with such a backward mentality and perception of rape, people who believe “innocent until proven guilty”, but women are “lying until proven honest” in regards to sexual assault., people who still have the guts to ask “what were you wearing?”, “were you drunk?” after finding out someone was sexually assaulted or abused(raped).
Men do not rape outfits, they rape women. What and how women choose to dress is not be an excuse for rape. I mean, how would you justify someone raping a baby? A baby for goodness sake. I know for sure that the baby was not wearing anything “sexy, inviting, too short or too tight. “
Teach men and boys that a girl’s body is not an object for them to use as they please and they are definitely not entitled to it. My body is mine, not yours and if I do not want you touching or putting your hands on it, please understand and respect that because you donʼt know what itʼs been through.
STOP victim-blaming and using rape-affirming language and normalizing it by objectifying and calling women names. Develop a zero-tolerance towards sexual harassment and violence in your daily life.
STOP joking about rape. Rape humour is unacceptable and should be called out. Be an advocate for justice and make sure perpetrators are persecuted and held liable for their actions. Justice should be served.
Most importantly, use your voice to fight this sexual assault war and break chains. Yell at the top of your lungs and be the voice of those with prisoner tongues and those who were forced to grow up too early.
Let’s all fight this battle together, if not for ourselves, for our friends and loved ones. Because no one is safe until we are all safe. God knows there is a war to be won, and the fight has only begun.Helena Enkali
