Baking may be regarded as science, but its the chemistry between the ingredients and the cook that gives desserts life. Baking is done out of love to share with family and friends, to see them smiling – Anna Olsen

What inspired you to start baking?

I’ve always enjoyed helping my mom in the kitchen growing up and that was probably where my love for cooking and more importantly baking came from. I started baking in 2017 for my friend, Secilia’s surprise birthday party. The plan was to divide and conquer in the sense that we as her friends paired up to organize the venue, food, music and most importantly (or at least to me), the cake. So from all the cake tutorial videos I’ve watched and with help from my friend Kimberly, we took on the challenge of creating a 4 layer chocolate and vanilla drip cake, a task which was both exciting yet intimidating.

What do you do apart from baking?

I am currently a full-time accounting student, so I’m normally free during the weekends which I spend catching up with my friends and family.

What are the essential ingredients to have when baking?

Apart from general essential baking ingredients such as eggs, flour, butter, sugar, etc. I need  to make sure that I have stocked up on icing sugar and cake boards because unlike the baking essentials, which I can find at almost any supermarket, I get my baking essentials from baking supply stores.

Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years with your baking?

In the next 5 years I hope to see my baking reach the next level which would be cakes covered in fondant and more than a single tier high.

What is your favourite cake to bake?

My favourite cake to bake would definitely be my toasted coconut and caramel cake. This cake has toasted coconut in the cake batter as well as the caramel filling.

What are your price ranges how are they determined?

My prices range from N$250 to N$400 depending on the filling and decoration. The price can also be higher due to a penalty fee that I charge for orders placed on very short notice.
