Emotional intelligence may be defined as the capability of an individual to recognize their own emotions and those of others, to handle interpersonal relationships judiciously and empathetically .With the assistance of emotional intelligence, one can use emotional information to guide thinking and behavior, one can then be able to manage and adjust emotions to adapt to an environment or to achieve a specific goal.
In the era that we are living and moving into emotional intelligence seem to be taking over .
Majority of the people have the believe that education and only education is the way forward in this life, well education is nothing without emotional intelligence.
The reason why I am saying this is because what can you do with education if you don’t know how to keep your emotions in check and how you can manage the emotions of others? How then would you be able to cope in group discussions and assignments if you are failing to handle your interpersonal relationships? How will you cope in a working environment where you will be working with people from numerous back grounds?
Emotional intelligence helps one to learn how to overcome all these and if you begin from a tender age it can make your life easier; be it at school, college or work. When companies or organizations are hiring they look for other skills that you possess apart from your qualifications. This skills entail leadership, communication, influence, conflict management, social awareness, social skills and self-management just to mention a few. When high schools are looking for learners to be part of the Learners Representative Council those are some of the aspects that they place into consideration.
Emotional intelligence is quite powerful as it holds the power to how your life will be, how far you will go in life and at what pace will you do so. It is of great importance that you familiarize yourself with emotional intelligence from a tender age in order to make your life and relationships easier be it with family, friends and anyone in your close circle.
